I Alone Am Left

It seems that when all is lost, when we reach our darkest hour, when we question if life is worth living – we return to our core. We go back to the one who created us. We journey back searching for the source that we know will give us comfort.

That’s what Elijah did. He went back to Mount Sinai because he was afraid. He felt out of touch with God but he knew that God would meet him there, at the mountain, where he knew those who went before him met God.

Have you had moments like this in your life?

Moments where you had something planned, perhaps something important, and you had to adapt because something else came up?

I think we all have.

We’ve called into work because our kids were sick. We’ve backed out of things because a family member or friend needed us. We’ve been late to something because we’ve stopped to help a stranger in need.

I thought I had this sermon pretty much planned, until something happened that changed the course. The racism and hatred being shown in Charlottesville, VA on the University of Virginia campus happened.

100 Loaves

What if we were the bread church? The church who constantly gave out fresh bread to those in and around our towns. We would be known for something. The aroma of a church who gives of themselves for those around us.

We don’t have to be the bread church, but we need to be a church invested in our communities.

People often leave the church because the church doesn’t practice what it preaches.

Let us live out our faith.

Let us help feed the hungry.

Let us help feed the whole town!
